What are the best places to visit in India?
The best places to visit in India are the Taj Mahal in Agra, Amber Fort & Palace in Jaipur, Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Vittala Temple in Hampi and Jaisalmer Fort. For a first trip, combine Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Go between October and March, when most of the country is dry and cool.

When is the best time to visit India?
October to March for most of the country: Rajasthan, Delhi, Agra, the south and the beaches. April to June suits the hills and Ladakh. July to September is the monsoon, best for Ladakh and the green Western Ghats.
How many days do you need in Jaipur?
Two to three days. Our Jaipur guide ranks 12 places: give one day to Amber Fort & Palace and the forts on the hills, one to the Old City (City Palace Jaipur, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar), and keep time for the bazaars.
Do foreign visitors pay more at Indian monuments?
Yes. Most ticketed monuments charge foreign visitors several times the Indian rate: at Taj Mahal, for example, it is ₹50 for Indian visitors and ₹1,100 for foreign visitors. Every Traveliac guide lists both prices.
Which famous places in India are free to visit?
Many of India’s best-known sights charge no entry fee, including Jama Masjid, Agra (Agra), Kashi Vishwanath Temple (Varanasi), Virupaksha Temple (Hampi), Lake Pichola (Udaipur), Gateway of India (Mumbai). Some charge for cameras or special ceremonies; each guide says so.
