عن Cloud's End

Cloud's End marks the western limit of Mussoorie's original ridge settlement, roughly 7 kilometres from the town centre along Hathipaon Road. Major Swetenham built a British-style bungalow here in 1838, at a point that then marked the outer boundary of the hill station, and the structure still stands today, converted into a heritage forest resort rather than preserved as a museum. The surrounding forest of oak and deodar opens onto unobstructed views of the Aglar River valley and the ridgelines running toward the Yamuna catchment, a quieter and less commercially developed outlook than Mussoorie's more central viewpoints like Gun Hill. The relative remoteness of the site — a winding drive rather than a walk from Mall Road — keeps visitor numbers consistently lower than Mussoorie's central attractions.

   Cloud's End rewards a full afternoon rather than a quick stop — the appeal is the quiet, forested drive and the relative absence of the crowds found at Gun Hill or Kempty Falls, not a single dramatic landmark. Hiring a taxi for a return trip with waiting time is more practical than attempting the drive independently unless familiar with Mussoorie's narrow hill roads.

   Combine the outing with George Everest's House, which sits along a broadly similar westward route from town, to make a single half-day loop covering both of Mussoorie's quieter western-ridge sites rather than two separate trips. Carry water and a snack, since there are no reliable food stalls directly at Cloud's End outside the resort itself.
