Sobre Camp Nou

Camp Nou opened in 1957 as the home stadium of Futbol Club Barcelona and has held Europe's largest football stadium capacity for most of the decades since, with a pre-renovation seating figure around 99,000; a major renovation begun in the 2020s is expanding capacity toward roughly 105,000 while the stadium remains partially under construction through 2026. Because of the ongoing building work, the classic Camp Nou Experience tour — dressing rooms, players' tunnel, and full pitchside walk — is currently suspended and replaced by the Barça Immersive Tour, combining the club museum with a Spotify Camp Nou Live digital room and a viewpoint over the active construction. The FC Barcelona museum, one of the most visited museums in Catalonia by ticketed footfall, displays the club's trophy collection alongside memorabilia tracing its 1899 founding by Swiss businessman Joan Gamper. The club's motto, "Més que un club" ("More than a club"), reflects Barça's historical role as a symbol of Catalan identity, particularly during the Franco dictatorship (1939–1975), when Catalan language and institutions were suppressed and the club functioned as one of few legal outlets for Catalan public assembly.

Mejor momento del día: 09:30 opening slot. On a weekday, before tour groups from the cruise terminal and coach parties arrive mid-morning.

Historia de Camp Nou

FC Barcelona was founded in 1899 by Joan Gamper, a Swiss expatriate, and played at several earlier grounds before outgrowing its previous stadium, Camp de Les Corts, in the 1950s. Camp Nou (Catalan for "new field") opened in September 1957, designed by architects Francesc Mitjans and Josep Soteras, and was originally named Estadi del FC Barcelona before the popular "Camp Nou" name became official in 2001.

During the Franco era, when Catalan political and cultural expression was heavily restricted, Camp Nou became one of the few spaces where Catalan identity could be publicly and safely asserted, a legacy still referenced in the club's self-description as "more than a club." The stadium underwent renovations for the 1982 FIFA World Cup and has hosted major finals including the 1992 Olympic football tournament and the 1999 UEFA Champions League final. A sponsorship deal renamed it Spotify Camp Nou in 2022, and the club began a large-scale renovation shortly after, under which the team has periodically played home matches at the smaller Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Montjuïc while Camp Nou work continues.

Normas y etiqueta en Camp Nou

Because the stadium is an active construction site as of 2026, tour routes, viewing areas, and safety protocols change periodically; visitors should check the official site close to their visit date rather than relying on older trip reports describing the pre-renovation tour. Hard hats or restricted zones may apply near active work areas.

Large bags and professional camera equipment with detachable lenses may be restricted or require separate screening, standard practice for any operating football stadium. The museum and immersive-room sections are fully indoor and unaffected by weather, but the construction viewpoint is partially exposed.

Consejos para visitar Camp Nou

  1. 1

Confirm before booking whether a visit falls during a stadium tour closure for a specific construction phase or a home match day, since match-day scheduling can suspend public tours entirely; the official FC Barcelona ticket page carries the most current calendar. The Immersive Tour, while more limited than the pre-renovation experience, includes access to the trophy room and a genuine viewpoint over the construction, which some visitors find more interesting than a standard finished-stadium tour.

  2. 2

Combine a Camp Nou visit with the FC Botiga megastore at the site for official merchandise at standard retail pricing, generally more reliable on authenticity than unofficial vendors near Las Ramblas. Palau Reial metro (L3) is a shorter, flatter walk to the stadium than the alternative Collblanc (L5) approach.
