À propos de Deutsches Museum

Deutsches Museum on Munich's Museumsinsel charges EUR 16 for adults and EUR 9 for concessions, as of 2026, and opens daily from 09:00 to 17:00. Founded in 1903, it is one of the largest science and technology museums in the world, and its main building on an island in the Isar river holds a large share of its collection. Deutsches Museum has been under a rolling modernisation for years: the first renovated half reopened on 8 July 2022 with around 20 permanent exhibitions across roughly 20,000 square metres, while the second half is scheduled to reopen in 2028.

Meilleur moment de la journée : 09:00 - 10:30. On a weekday, before school groups fill the aviation and physics halls; late afternoon after 15:30 is also quiet.

Histoire de Deutsches Museum

Deutsches Museum was founded in 1903 on the initiative of the engineer Oskar von Miller, who wanted a national collection of scientific and technical masterpieces. Its main building on Museumsinsel opened in 1925, and the collection has since grown across three Munich sites: the island museum, the Verkehrszentrum transport museum and the Flugwerft Schleißheim aircraft hangar.

Deutsches Museum was damaged in the Second World War and rebuilt in stages. The current programme is the largest renovation in the building's nearly hundred-year history, and it has replaced many older displays with 19 newly designed exhibitions, ranging from atomic physics and chemistry to robotics, mathematics and musical instruments.

Deutsches Museum keeps some areas closed for renovation: the high-voltage apparatus and the mine have been reported as closed for several years, and the second half of the building is not expected back before 2028. Check the official site for the current list before planning around a specific hall.

Règles et étiquette à Deutsches Museum

Deutsches Museum requires valid ID for concession and free tickets, and children under 12 may only visit with an adult. Tickets are sold on site and online; the museum recommends buying online in advance to skip the ticket queue.

Deutsches Museum allows small bags in the exhibition halls, but large rucksacks and suitcases go to lockers or the cloakroom near the entrance; check the entrance for locker payment. Live demonstrations run at set times listed in the daily programme, and rooms can reach capacity, so arrive early for those.

Deutsches Museum has cafe and shop space on the island, but food inside the museum is priced at museum rates; many visitors eat at the Viktualienmarkt or on the riverside instead. Photography for personal use is generally permitted; check individual halls for signs restricting flash.

Conseils pour visiter Deutsches Museum

  1. 1

Deutsches Museum is too large for a single visit, and the practical rule is to choose two or three halls rather than walking the whole building. The musical instruments, atomic physics and robotics exhibitions in the renovated half reward a slow pass; a full visit needs about four hours minimum.

  2. 2

Deutsches Museum offers an annual pass covering all three Munich locations at EUR 50, or EUR 25 discounted, as of 2026, which pays back quickly if the Verkehrszentrum and Flugwerft Schleißheim are also on the itinerary.

  3. 3

Deutsches Museum sits about 15 minutes on foot from Marienplatz, towards the Isar. Go on a weekday morning: school groups fill the building from about 10:30, and the least crowded time is the last two hours before closing, when queues at demonstrations are shortest.
