À propos de Kanto

Kanto is the flat, densely populated plain occupying the east-central section of Honshu, Japan's main island, ringed by mountains to the west and north and opening onto Tokyo Bay and the Pacific to the east and south. It comprises seven prefectures — Tokyo, Kanagawa, Saitama, Chiba, Ibaraki, Tochigi, and Gunma — and holds roughly a third of Japan's population on well under a tenth of its land area, a concentration made possible by the region's unusually large expanse of low, flat, arable and buildable ground compared to the mountainous terrain covering most of the rest of the country.

Tokyo sits at the region's core as both the seat of national government and its transport hub; nearly every long-distance shinkansen line and regional rail network converges there, making Kanto's other notable destinations reachable as day trips rather than requiring separate lodging. Kamakura and Yokohama lie south along the Shonan coast and Tokyo Bay; Nikko's shrine complex sits in the wooded foothills to the north in Tochigi; Hakone's hot-spring resorts and Mount Fuji viewpoints occupy the region's mountainous southwestern edge straddling Kanagawa and Shizuoka.

Spring (late March–April) and autumn (October–November) are Kanto's strongest travel windows, bringing cherry blossoms and foliage respectively with generally mild, dry weather. Summer (June–September) is hot, humid, and prone to typhoons arriving from the Pacific, particularly August–September; winter is cold but typically dry and clear across the plain, which is the best season for long-range Mount Fuji visibility from Tokyo and Hakone alike.
