À propos de New York State
New York State stretches from the harbor islands of New York City to the Adirondack high peaks and the Canadian border at the Thousand Islands, a distance that changes climate, accent, and pace almost completely. The overwhelming majority of international visitors come for one destination — New York City, at the state's extreme southeastern corner, built across Manhattan and four surrounding boroughs where the Hudson and East Rivers meet the Atlantic. Beyond the city, the Hudson Valley carries river towns, estates, and the United States Military Academy at West Point; further north and west, the Finger Lakes region produces wine on glacially carved lake shores, and Niagara Falls sits on the state's western edge, shared with Ontario, Canada.
New York City runs on a humid continental climate with real seasonal extremes: winters bring sub-zero wind chill and occasional snow, summers bring heat and humidity in the 30s°C. Spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) are the most comfortable months and the ones most guidebooks recommend, though they are also the most crowded and expensive for hotels. Public transit — the subway system in the city, Amtrak and Metro-North trains upstate — covers the state's populated corridors well; a car becomes useful only once a traveller leaves the city for the Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes, or Adirondacks. This region entry currently covers New York City; the Hudson Valley, Finger Lakes, and Niagara Falls areas are not yet built out.
