Palacio de Bellas Artes के बारे में

Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City charges MXN 90 for museum entry as of 2026 and is free on Sundays, and it houses the country's most concentrated set of mural painting by Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros. The exterior is white Carrara marble with an orange-tiled dome in Art Nouveau style, while the interior turns to Art Deco marble, bronze and stone. Palacio de Bellas Artes is also the city's main opera and concert hall, and inside the theatre hangs a glass curtain made by Tiffany Studios from roughly a million pieces of glass, according to commonly cited figures. The curtain, designed by Mexican painter Gerardo Murillo, known as Dr. Atl, depicts the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl in glass.

दिन का सबसे अच्छा समय: 10:00-12:00। On a weekday, when the mural corridors are quietest.

Palacio de Bellas Artes का इतिहास

Palacio de Bellas Artes was commissioned by President Porfirio Díaz as a national theatre, and Italian architect Adamo Boari began construction in 1904. The soft lakebed clay caused the heavy marble structure to settle, and the Mexican Revolution then halted work from 1913 for almost two decades. Architect Federico Mariscal completed the interior in Art Deco style and the palace opened on 29 November 1934.

Palacio de Bellas Artes became a showcase for the muralism movement soon after opening. Rivera's "Man, Controller of the Universe" (1934) was painted here after the Rockefeller family ordered the original destroyed at Rockefeller Center in New York for including a portrait of Lenin, and Orozco's "Catharsis" (1934) and Siqueiros's "New Democracy" (1944-1945) share the upper floors. Rufino Tamayo's murals are also on display.

Palacio de Bellas Artes continues to sink unevenly, and conservation work on the marble and glass is ongoing.

Palacio de Bellas Artes के नियम व शिष्टाचार

Palacio de Bellas Artes follows standard museum rules: no flash and no touching the murals, with security staff who will ask visitors to step back. Large backpacks and umbrellas must be checked at the cloakroom, and professional cameras or tripods require a permit. Dress smartly for theatre performances, which is the local norm for opera and ballet nights.

Palacio de Bellas Artes shows the Tiffany glass curtain only during certain performances or scheduled displays, so a museum ticket does not automatically include it. Ticket touts sometimes operate outside the palace on performance nights; buy from the official box office. Avoid changing money with street offers near Alameda Central and pay attention to pickpockets on the crowded steps and in the Metro station.

Palacio de Bellas Artes जाने के लिए टिप्स

  1. 1

Palacio de Bellas Artes rewards starting on the upper mural floors and working down, so that Rivera, Orozco and Siqueiros are seen before the crowds thicken. Weekday mornings are quiet, while Sundays are free for everyone and the mural corridors become slow and crowded from mid-morning.

  2. 2

Book a Ballet Folklórico de México performance in the theatre if your dates allow, since the show is the most reliable way to see the Tiffany glass curtain; verify the current schedule and prices on the official box office. Afterwards cross to the Torre Latinoamericana viewpoint or walk the Alameda Central park behind the palace.
