Palm Jumeirah is an artificial archipelago built roughly 5 kilometres out into the Persian Gulf in the shape of a palm tree, formed from approximately 94 million cubic metres of dredged sand and protected by an 11-kilometre rock breakwater ringing its outer crescent.
