Marari Beach takes its name from the fishing hamlet of Mararikulam, roughly 11 kilometres north of Alappuzha town, where a stretch of coast that National Geographic once ranked among the world's five best hammock beaches remains, on any ordinary morning, mostly a workplace rather than a resort strip.
