También conocido como Van City
Vancouver sits on the Burrard Peninsula between Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River delta, and had about 662,000 residents in the city proper at the 2021 census, with roughly 2.6 million across Metro Vancouver. The city was incorporated in 1886, and its oldest commercial district, Gastown, grew around a sawmill saloon in 1867.

Excursiones desde Vancouver
Vale la pena si te sobra un día, empezando por los más cercanos.
65 km · About 1h by car along Highway 99
Squamish (Sea-to-Sky)
Squamish sits at the head of Howe Sound, with Shannon Falls, the Sea to Sky Gondola and rock climbing on the Stawamus Chief. It is a shorter Sea-to-Sky trip than Whistler, and the two can be combined on a long day.
100 km · About 3-3.5h door to door, including the roughly 1h35 BC Ferries crossing from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay and the drive to Victoria
Victoria (via BC Ferries)
The provincial capital has the Royal BC Museum, the Parliament Buildings and Butchart Gardens nearby. Ferry sailings, fares and vehicle reservations vary by season, so book at the BC Ferries site; a foot-passenger trip is possible by bus and ferry, but the day is long.
120 km · 1h45-2h30 by car along the Sea-to-Sky Highway (Highway 99), longer in winter or heavy traffic
Whistler
Whistler Blackcomb is the region's main ski area, and the village has alpine hiking, the Peak 2 Peak Gondola and lake swimming in summer. Highway 99 is a mountain highway that can close for weather or incidents, so check DriveBC and carry winter tyres between October and April.
Sobre Vancouver
Downtown occupies a compact peninsula, with Stanley Park at its western tip, False Creek and Granville Island to the south, and the North Shore mountains, including Grouse Mountain and Capilano Canyon, across Burrard Inlet.
The practical hubs are Waterfront Station, where the Canada Line, Expo Line, SeaBus and West Coast Express meet, and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on Sea Island, about 12 km south of downtown. The Canada Line links the airport to downtown in about 26 minutes, and TransLink charges an adult 1-zone Compass fare of CAD 2.85 from 1 July 2026, plus a CAD 6.50 YVR AddFare on trips starting at the airport. The Museum of Anthropology at UBC and the Aquarium are best reached by bus, and the False Creek ferries connect downtown to Granville Island.
May to September is the most reliable window, with dry, mild summers and the mountains clear enough for Grouse Mountain and the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Winters are mild and wet, with most rain between October and March, so carry a waterproof layer at any time. Museums such as the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Museum of Anthropology at UBC close on set days, so check the weekday before you go. Sales tax adds 5 percent GST and 7 percent PST to most goods, and tipping of 15-20 percent is expected at sit-down restaurants.
