Sobre Central Thailand

Central Thailand occupies the low-lying delta and floodplain of the Chao Phraya River, the country's principal waterway, running from the northern hill country down to the Gulf of Thailand. The region's flat, intensively irrigated terrain has made it Thailand's agricultural and demographic core for centuries, and its river and canal network shaped settlement patterns long before roads did — a legacy still visible in Bangkok's surviving khlongs and in the canal-based floating markets of Ratchaburi and Samut Songkhram provinces to the city's southwest.

Bangkok, the country's capital since 1782, dominates the region economically and administratively, but Central Thailand's history runs deeper: Ayutthaya, roughly 80 kilometres north of Bangkok, served as the Siamese capital from 1350 to 1767 and remains a UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site of brick chedis and temple ruins. The region's climate follows Thailand's broader three-season pattern — cool and dry from November to February, hot from March to May, and rainy with heavy but typically short afternoon downpours from June to October — with the cool season offering the most comfortable conditions for both Bangkok's dense old-town walking circuits and day trips to the surrounding historical and market towns.
