China ਵਿੱਚ ਘੁੰਮਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਥਾਵਾਂ

A continent-sized country where imperial capitals, high-speed rail and a mobile-payment economy sit side by side, and where entry rules and the digital environment differ sharply from most of the world.

China has a climate that changes sharply between regions, but its capital region has a continental monsoon pattern: hot, humid summers in July and August with heavy rain, cold and dry winters with January lows around -8 C, and short spring and autumn seasons. April, May, September and October are the most comfortable months, while the 1-7 October National Day Golden Week and the Spring Festival period (mid-February in 2026, early February in 2027) put the whole country on the move, and rail seats, hotels and attraction reservations sell out weeks ahead. The national currency is the yuan renminbi (CNY, ¥). Mobile payment dominates daily life, but foreign visitors can link a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or JCB card to Alipay or WeChat Pay; travel sources report the per-transaction limit for foreign cards was raised to about USD 5,000 in 2025-26, and Alipay's prepaid Tour Pass avoids fees on small purchases. Cash remains legal tender and must be accepted by law, though many small vendors prefer QR codes, so carry some yuan from an ATM and set up payment apps before arrival. Tipping is not expected in restaurants or taxis. The Great Firewall blocks Google, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X and WhatsApp, and English-language news sites may be blocked too. An eSIM or roaming plan that routes traffic through your home network usually bypasses this, whereas VPN apps must be installed before arrival because their download sites are blocked, and use of unapproved VPNs is technically outside the rules. Apple Maps, Baidu Maps, Amap and Didi work without a VPN. Etiquette matters: carry your passport, queue in stations (though pushing is common), avoid discussing politics with strangers, and do not photograph military sites or police. High-speed rail links Beijing to Shanghai in roughly 4.5 hours, and domestic flights are frequent and cheap. Most major sites use real-name reservations, so book several days ahead with a passport.

Most nationalities need a visa for tourism (an L visa) unless an exemption applies; check the National Immigration Administration (NIA) or the nearest Chinese embassy before booking, as of 2026. Unilateral visa-free entry for up to 30 days currently covers ordinary passport holders of roughly 50 countries, including most of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea, with the UK and Canada added from 17 February 2026; the scheme is extended to 31 December 2026 and could be renewed or changed. Separately, a 240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit policy covers 57 countries through 65 ports of entry, including the United States and the United Kingdom, on condition of a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region and travel only within the permitted area (Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei count as one area). Indian passport holders are not on either list: the NIA's list of 57 transit countries does not include India, and India is not among the 30-day visa-free countries, so an L (tourist) visa is required. Applications are made through Chinese Visa Application Service Centres in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, with online pre-filling introduced from December 2025, and reduced visa fees have been reported through 31 December 2026 (a single-entry visa fee of INR 2,900 plus a service charge is reported; verify current fees and documents with the CVASC or the embassy). Some blogs claim Indian citizens can use the 240-hour transit; the NIA list does not support that, so plan for a visa. All foreign visitors must register with local police through their hotel within 24 hours, and passports are required for real-name ticketing at most major sites.
