Triund is a grassy ridge at roughly 2,850 metres on the southern face of the Dhauladhar range, reached by a 9–11 km trail that climbs from McLeod Ganj's Galu Devi Temple trailhead through mixed oak, deodar, and rhododendron forest before opening onto bare meadow. The Forest Department's Kangra district office describes it as "the crown jewel of Dharamshala," and the ridge is popular enough for a day-hike that a same-day return crowd noticeably outnumbers overnight campers on clear weekends. The first 5–6 km of trail from Galu Devi Temple through Magic View Café and Lahesh Cave is a steady, moderate ascent manageable by most reasonably fit walkers; the final kilometre — known locally as the "22 curves" — switches to a steeper, more direct climb that accounts for most of the trek's difficulty. A snow-line campsite beyond Triund itself, Ilaqa Got and Lahesh Caves, extends the route toward Indrahar Pass for trekkers equipped for multi-day mountaineering rather than a day hike.

Beste Tageszeit: Start by 07:00 – 08:00. To reach the ridge by early afternoon with clear Dhauladhar and Kangra Valley views before cloud typically builds after 15:00.

The Himachal Pradesh Forest Department charges a flat trekking/entry permit of ₹100 per person per day, collected at the Galu Devi Temple forest checkpoint, regardless of nationality, as of 2026 — verify at the counter as rates are revised periodically. Overnight tent camping at Triund top carries an additional forest camping fee of roughly ₹550 per tent (two people); the Forest Rest House at Triund has a handful of rooms bookable in advance through the Divisional Forest Officer's office in Dharamshala.

   Carry more water than seems necessary — the tea shacks along the route sell bottled water and basic snacks (Maggi noodles, tea, biscuits) at a reasonable markup, but they thin out noticeably above Lahesh Cave. A trekking pole or sturdy shoes with real tread matter far more on the final "22 curves" stretch than on the gentler lower forest section.

   Overnighting at Triund rewards a clear night with an unobstructed view of the Dhauladhar peaks lit by starlight and, on a good evening, the lights of the Kangra Valley far below; rented tents and sleeping bags are available from operators at the Galu Devi trailhead if you would rather not carry your own kit uphill. Check current snow conditions with a McLeod Ganj trekking outfitter before a winter attempt — the upper stretch becomes genuinely hazardous without proper microspikes and layered cold-weather gear once snow settles in from late December.
