Sobre Central Hungary

Central Hungary (Közép-Magyarország) is a statistical and planning region containing the capital, Budapest, and surrounding Pest County, and it sits in the middle of the Carpathian Basin on both banks of the Danube. Buda, on the western bank, rises into limestone hills, while Pest, on the eastern bank, spreads across the flat plain toward the Great Hungarian Plain. The region is Hungary's transport hub: motorways, main railway lines and Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport all radiate from the capital, and Pest County towns such as Szentendre, Visegrád and Gödöllő are day trips by suburban HÉV railway, regional train, bus or boat.

The climate is continental, with hot summers, cold winters and comfortable spring (April-June) and early autumn (September-October) weather for sightseeing. Summer brings festivals and busy river cruises, while the Christmas market season in December draws a separate winter wave. Thermal springs beneath Budapest support the city's bath culture, and the Danube Bend north of the city has hills, castles and villages that suit a full-day excursion. Public holidays on 15 March, 20 August and 23 October can change opening hours and entry fees at major sights across the region.
