Traveliac — the world, one place at a time

Which day attractions close

If you plan one museum day on a city break, make it anything but Monday. We counted the weekly closing day of every attraction in our atlas — 532 places across 20 countries — and the result is not evenly spread. 50 of 104 weekly closures fall on a Monday — nearly half of them, and close to three times the next-highest day. The remaining 54 are spread across the other six.

90 of 532 places close on at least one fixed day each week. A place closed on two days is counted once under each, so the column totals 104.

Two-tier entry pricing

111 of the 532 places charge foreign visitors more than residents, and 138 are free to enter. The gap is widest at India's ASI monuments, where the published resident rate is a fraction of the foreign one — the Taj Mahal, Ellora and Ajanta all follow the same two-tier structure, and so do the UNESCO-listed sites at Khajuraho.

How these numbers were produced

  • The population is every attraction published on Traveliac at the time this page was built — 532 places in 20 countries. It is not a sample and not a survey.
  • A “weekly closure” means the place has a day marked closed in its structured hours record. Seasonal and holiday closures are excluded, because they are not weekly.
  • 396 places state a clock time; 136 keep no fixed hours and are excluded from the closure counts rather than guessed at.
  • Hours are compiled from each place's official source and public records, and every place page names the source and the date it was last checked. Our guides are compiled with AI assistance and we say so on how we write these guides.
  • Counted on 2026-10-13. The figures are computed from the live dataset when the page is built, so they move as the atlas grows — cite the date alongside the number.
