6 Orte zum Besuchen in Manali

Auch bekannt als Manalsu · Dev Bhoomi Gateway

Manali sits at 2,050 metres at the northern end of the Kullu Valley, where the Beas River is still young and cold and the deodar forest on the valley walls is dense enough to block the afternoon light.

Tagesausflüge ab Manali

Lohnt sich, wenn noch ein Tag übrig ist — die nächstgelegenen zuerst.

  • 42 km · 1.25 hours plus a 2km uphill walk

    Bijli Mahadev Temple

A Shiva temple on a ridge above Kullu town famous for its 20-metre stone-and-metal 'lightning rod' staff, which locals say is periodically struck by lightning, shattering the temple's stone Shivling — reassembled each time with butter and clarified ghee by the resident priests.

  • 50 km · 1.5 hours

    Lahaul Valley via Atal Tunnel

The 8.8km Atal Tunnel (opened 2020) cuts under Rohtang La to reach the moonscape plateau of Lahaul in any weather or season. The contrast between the green Kullu Valley and the treeless grey-brown Lahaul is one of the sharpest landscape shifts in the Indian Himalaya.

  • 95 km · 2.5 hours by road to Barshaini, plus a 4–5 hour trek

Kheerganga Trek (via Barshaini, beyond Kasol)

A high-altitude meadow and natural hot spring above the Parvati Valley, reached by a moderate overnight trek from Barshaini village. One of Himachal's most popular multi-day treks for travellers already based in Kasol or Manikaran.

Über Manali

The town proper — the bazaar grid around Mall Road — is a clutter of trekking agencies, woolens shops, and Tibetan momos stalls that accelerates sharply between May and September when the plains population decamps here to escape the heat. Old Manali, separated by a bridge and a ten-minute walk, is a different proposition: a village of stone-and-timber houses, apple orchards dropping green fruit in August, and the Hadimba Devi Temple pagoda rising from a grove of ancient deodars.

The city functions primarily as a staging post. Travellers arrive to acclimatise before heading up Rohtang La (3,978m) toward Spiti or Lahaul, or to pick up permits, provisions, and cold-weather gear before trekking routes into the Pin-Parvati or Hampta Pass corridors. This transit nature defines Manali's economy: every business is oriented around the visitor, from the Kashmiri carpet dealers who will follow you for two blocks to the government-licensed trekking operators on Log Huts Road.

The Solang Valley, 14km northwest on the Rohtang road, is the designated adventure sports zone — paragliding, ropeway, and in winter, skiing on slopes that are rudimentary by Alpine standards but functional. In summer it is a grassland meadow above the treeline with views of the Beas Kund glacier. The food scene in Manali is genuinely good in pockets: Johnson's Café on Circuit House Road has been producing consistent continental-and-Himachali food since the 1990s, while the night market near the bus stand offers ₹60 thukpa that rivals anything in Leh. The Mall Road restaurants are mostly theatrical tourist traps with laminated menus and indifferent cooking.
